scarmbler 500 flywheel stator issue?
#1
Ok please be kind as I'm a newbie and do not have a ton of experinece working on ATV's
My 2001 scrambler 500 is having major issues. I can not start it with the electric start and it no longer charges the battery. I can get it to fire up when I manually pull start it. Once I get it running I can here something banging on the inside which I presume is a magnet from the flywheel. How easy it to diagnose and try to fix this myself. How much money are we potentially talking about?
Remember I'm a newbie so please be kind

Remove the recoil assy(pull rope) and check it out. Stators and flywheels are a little expensive. New at a dealer is around 670.00 for the stator and flywheel. You need a puller for the flywheel.
Make sure the wires to the voltage regulator didn't burn or come unplugged.

94 harley, Thanks for the help, one question though. When I remove the recoil and look in what am I lloking for? Obviously a magnet floating around but how do I know whether it's a staor or flywheel issue and can I get the parts from someone cheaper than a polaris dealer?

If the magnets came off or broke, you will know it. They will be everywhere probably. You need an ohmmeter to test the stator(or look for physical damage from the magnets tearing the coils apart)
I sent you a Personal Message too.
