Just cleaned out the carb and had it running since.
Now in the cold it wont start.
are these things cold blooded? is there anything i can do to get it started?
its almost as if it isnt getting fire or gas.

 

First I would make sure you're getting a good spark. Here's a trick I learned on this forum. You can pull the plug and ground it on the block and push the starter button and you should see the blue spark. You also might want to check the carb again and make sure there is no junk in the idle jet. I had this problem where it was starving for fuel and as soon as I cleaned it mine started right up. I now have an in-line fuel filter installed to prevent this in the future.

 

are you using the choke? pull the choke cable from the carb body and clean it out. that can help alot. or try moveing your pilot jet OUT 1/4turn at a time(small brass skrew twords the engine

 

is the pilot jet the screw on the bottom of the carb that makes the carb leak gas out of the bottom if i take it all the way out?

 

That screw is the carb drain valve. You can use that to possibly drain out any trash floating around in the bowl. Personally, I would check your idle jet again and make sure there is nothing gummed up in it.

 

the pilot jet is the small brass skrew that is furthest forward on the bottom of the carb. as pinetag sugested, check your slow/idol jet for a partial clog

 

take your choke thats connected to the carb apart. most likely its gummed up. ive had this problem before and its very simple to fix. spray some wd40 in the choke housing of the carb. take the carb end off the choke cable and move it up and down in a regular cylinder motion. basically back and forth. until it loosens up a bit. that should help easy.

 

Gooz - where are you? I have the same exact bike. I'm in NH. It was about 5 degrees the other day and I had to move my 250. My battery is dead of course, and I haven't replaced it. I just cleaned the carb this winter too and I had it running really nice (maybe it's still idling a bit high). Anyways - I tried starting it - I must have kicked it about 50 times and gave up. My detached garage is not heated, so it was just too cold. I grabbed my space heater and let it blow right near the engine for 30min. Closest thing to a block heater, right? Well it started in 2 kicks after that. I think it was just too cold and it had been sitting for 2 weeks. Were you able to figure out what's up with yours?
