Maybe the fuel was left on and it overflowed into the crank case? Uset to happen to my dodge all the time till I changed the carb.
Drain oil refill with 10-40
Remove and hose down carb with carb cleaner
Regular gasoline into the tank
Fire it up and get wheelin

oil smelling like gas would indicate blow by, if this is true your compression should be lousy and you could be rich as well. Run a leak down test (filll the cylinder with a set amount of air and see if it holds steady at that presure) if you find that it won't hold the presure pull the head off and inspect the rings and cylinder wall, if you are lucky the rings may be worn, worst case is the cylinder will need to be bored out and the piston and rings will need to be replaced. Even that is not too pricy to do.
Another possibility is that you carb is leaking and running into your case vent ( the vent is located directly below the carburator) this also could be the issue I had a leaky carb on mine and it soaked the K&N breather filter I put on so this could be the issue.
This is a 4 stroke so no premix is required. I did an experiment with fuels, from regular all the way up to VP 110 and U4 and found that they aren't too picky on what you feed em'.
As far as case oil goes, choose a good quality oil that will maintain it's lubricating qualities under even the most severe conditions. I have always had great luck wih a 10-40 synthetic blend from Maxima and Golden Spectro.
Hope this helps you out

may be as simple as a carb kit.. and plug but defintly do a compression ck and if oyu got it a leak down checker try that on mine the carb float was not seating and over flowing in to cylinder when not in use so it would burn oil and smelt of gas the oil did
