It would be five more louder.

When I bought a certain aftermarket exhaust system, I was told it was 8 db louder. It was quite a difference, taking for granted that the numbers given were correct.

That exhaust will be noticably louder. Part of my job is taking decibal reading of the equipment we sell. If I`m not mistaken sound gets louder expedentially (spelling) which means that 1 decibal more than 50 decibals is slightly louder but 1 decibal more than 94 is a lot louder and 99 decibals is pretty loud. I hope I explained it correctly and so you can understand.

If I remember right from school, if you raise the sound level 10 decibels, it is about 2 times as loud.

B,

From my tid bit of experience w/ car stereo, 5 DB increase is quite a bit when you get into the higher DB's like EasterEGG explained. There will be quite a bit of difference in pitch/tone/peak in the sound.

IN other words, the 94 ""should"" be quite a bit LESS noisy than the 99 DB silencer...........

Thanks guys. I had a feeling that the "noise curve" would be exponential and not linear. I have a feeling that it will be 1 1/2 times louder but at leat I can slip it off at camp and stick the 9 pound stocker back on.(so as not to pi$$ anybody off)

Do you guys know if one must rejet when changing silencers/spark arrestors... Hey! that makes me think of something else...FMF sells it as a forestry approved silencer/spark arrestor so it can't be all that loud!!

99db is 3.16 times louder than 94db. 99db is equal to 10 raised to the 9.9 power while 94db is 10 raised to the 9.4 power. The difference is 10 raised to the 0.5 power, which is 3.16. The following site will provide more information. Hope this answers your question.

Hey Xplor~
You better be sure to take your stock silencer to Michigan in May because I read just recently that they have a limit of 96db(I'm pretty sure of that). Also, when I went from my stock silencer to the AAEN, it was not necessary to rejet.

It would be great if I made a mistake and the new FMF is lower than expected. By the way it was explained, going down even 1 decible is alot of noise...

WIscrambler, trust me, when you see everything I am bringing doen there with me averyone will laugh. In fact I am bringing all stock parts that I had removed. This includes: pipe, silencer, suspension, racks, clutch kits, sprockets, belts, piston, reed valve, stock head, tires...the whole bit actually! You never know what can go wrong and I don't think there is a "speedy" Polaris dealer on the dunes!
