Snow Plowing/ Trail ATV
#1
Ok, I am looking for a snow plowing and trail utility atv. Definate 4 wheel drive. looking for a 400 to 500cc or more if the price is right. Looking to plow long drives and a few of them. Also want to be able to get through mud and streams. I live in NE Pennsylvania so we get a bunch of snow and in the mountains I have a lot of area to ride. Looking at Arctic Cat, Honda, Suzuki, Honda, and Yamaha. Basically all brands. I will be getting it used. Really interested in a 2005 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO. Please let me know about any make and experience. Thanks

Sounds like the Sportsman 500 HO will suite your needs just fine. Great for plowing, and real comfortable on the trails. Plus the 4 wheel drive system is awesome, true 4X4. Think you would also be happy with a Yamaha. I guess it all depends on the deals you find.

Hey Ozark,
I'm up here in NE PA too.
I've been plowing snow just fine with my 500 HO with at 60" blade. However, I think any of the brands you mentioned will do fine for plowing provided that have 4WD or AWD. All of them should do fine on trails and some mud. However, if you have to do with "serious" mud, the Honda 4WD may fall a little short, as it lacks a locker in the front.
My also plows snow just fine with his 400 Arctic Cat and a 60" blade, and it is just fine on the trails, and excellent in mud.
Just be careful buying a used quad. If you can take someone who knows a lot about ATV's it can be a big help.
Good Luck

All of the major maker's 500ccs or 600ccs will do you fine (Kawi, Suzuki, Can Am, Polaris, Cat, Yamaha, Honda). I would take an 05 Sportsman over an 08 Cat 366. The 366 is almost an introductory/girls bike (according to dirtwheels). It would probably suit you fine, but the extra power of the 500 will serve you well.

A Sportsman 500 can plow tons of snow... literally. I have a 5 foot high snow bank that's at least twice as big as my truck. So far I haven't found a mud hole I can't go through that someone else can. I've been through water up to the racks, but you really shouldn't go in past the floorboards.

I signed up for an exercise class and was told to wear loose fitting clothing.
If I HAD any loose fitting clothing, I wouldn't have signed up in the first place!

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Thanks, I think that for the same price i could get a 2005 Polaris Sportsman 500 HO and a 2008 Arctic Cat 366 new. Which would you recommend? </end quote></div>
Your kidding us right? The Kawasaki dealer is asking the same price for a 366 as the Polaris dealer wants for a 500 Sportsman.
I like the 366 but its in a different class from 500s.
