300ex, 400ex or Warrior????
#1
Hi everyone,
this is my first post, been lurking for a few days....anyway, my 300ex was stolen right after Xmas (Rochelle Park NJ 07662 offering 1000 reward for return and 10 unsupervised minutes with the tart that stole it) anyway, it was my brothers and i got him a 400ex in place of it. Hey its my brother, so i liked the 300ex until i rode the 400ex. WOW!! what a difference. 400 was jetted and full exhaust, 300 was stock. Im also looking at a couple of Warriors, but i dont know should i:
1:get the 300ex and just enjoy the trials (99% of my riding)
2: get the Warrior for the 50cc bigger motor then the 300ex
3: spend the extra for the 400ex difference over the others
i like the reverse feature of the 300 and warriors, but seen ALOT of posts ont eh warrior with electrical issues, are the 2002-2004 better then the earlier Warriors?
im finding Warriors and 300ex for about 1000-1500 and 400ex for 2000-2800. im a VERY mechanically inclined person except with electronics...im OK to Good with electronics (not my favorite past time). So warrior 300 or 400??? any OTHER suggestions?? want something 2wd for the traisl with small to medium jumps. Im 6' tall, 230 lbs.
thanks
Ron

yeah i figured, i got the one for my brother to replace the stolen one, and it scared me at first, just the raw power difference over the 300 was insane. i cant afford the 05-up i can live without reverse i guess.....we'll see what i get back from the government this tax season......with the economy the way it is, i lost my shirt and should have decent deductions. Pick up a 400ex from someone that needs money for bills....sad to do but when a door closes a window opens....

You don't want the Warrior, ok. I speak from personal experience here. They just don't handle very well by modern standards.
If you ride mostly tight trails and are on the smaller side (you are comfortable on the quad), then get the 300. You will never use the extra power of a bigger machine.
If you are on the bigger side and the 400EX more comfortable for you, then get the 400.

with 11000 posts i think i can trust your opinion
thanks all, i know i posted on a Honda section so it can be one sided, but i read alot over in the Yamaha section about electrical gremlins on the Warriors. i like the styling of the Warrior (plastics) and such.....but the 400ex i rode was NICE, was doing jumps that the 300 would struggle. Like i said i'm 6' 230lbs so the 300 did OK, the 400 acted like i wasnt on it compared to the 300. i mightjust pick up a 300 and tool around the trails, save up for a 400 later on and sell the 300 or let the wife ride it...i just want one NOW lol!!!!
thanks again, keep the opinions coming.....

i would wait and save up the cash for the 400ex. resist the urge to impulse buy the 300. in the long run you'll be happier

I too am looking into another quad... Right now i've got a 2008 rancher and was lookin for somethin with a manual clutch just to ride for kicks ... my only concern is is that i've never ridden a sport machine so i'm not sure how big i should go... I ride mostly trails and some creek bottom but other than that no racing no big jumps nothin just lookin for something that handles well and feels balanced at a cheap price.. What would you suggest i'm 6'2" 150#'s. Thanks

yea my best friend has a warrior ,electrical night mare....the 300ex is a sweet all around trail machine but the 400 ex is the trail boss ..
.
..get either one tuned in to your weight ,and youll find it hard to keep all four wheels on the ground
.
not becouse there fast ,but becouse its so much fun....the 400 runs about 1000.00 more than the 300 ,but has alot more to offer..better shocks ..oil cooler ..ect...plus you'd eaisly spend 1000.00 on the 300 trying to keep up with your brother
.
with that said id defantily go with the 400ex and go ahead and buy some nerf bars for it ....in the trails the nerfs will deflect most vines keeping them from grabbing your feet and rear axle...not to mention hitting trees ...
