looking to buy a polaris what do you think

I am looking to buy a atv for my wife and I wanted to know your opinions on the polaris 300 and 400, pros and cons and everything inbetween

I don't own one but keep considering them. I like BOTH!
The 300 reminds me of the legendary old Honda 300 4X4 with it's basic simplicity. Not a whole lot that can go wrong. No radiator to bash in being air cooled, no fancy digital display to fail, no big horsepower to wear things out. Just a conservative, humble basic ATV.
The 400 steps it up a notch with liquid cooling, battery tender plug, up-graded tires, and damn it looks great in green with the black rims!
I don't understand why there isn't the PARK feature like the bigger Sportsman.
I posted a thread a few months ago and the feedback from owners was a BIG thumbs-up!
Good topic here!

Oh one more thing.
Current offer is Free Polaris Winch.(1500lb)
I would take the extra Rebate in lieu of the Popo Winch. (think it's a $270 credit)
Go to Ramsey or Warn for your winch. Polaris winch is pure junk.

i just pyrchased the 400 H.O. instead of the 300. Glad i did. I can keep up with my fellow trail riders on 800's! much more than i thought it could do.
p.s. the 400 is actually a 455cc!

I"ve got both & both will do anything the bigger ones will except maybe for mud. But there are some 400 owneres here that use they successfully in mud. Certainly more agile than the big guys and very basic (300).

I have a 400 HO and am extremely happy with it.
I just bought it last fall and have already had it out trail riding 3 times, 1 deer hunting trip, countless times plowing the driveway, and 7 times ice fishing. I probably already have 300+ miles on the odometer.
When I bought, I looked at this one and thought the price was right, but would I be missing out on something compared to all of those bigger models. So far I am convinced I made the right decision. It pushes snow just fine. It cruises the ice just fine without getting stuck. I had it scrambling uphill over multiple logs behind my buddy with his Kawasaki 650. He would get stuck and have trouble where I sailed over the top. Top speed is about 45. I wouldn't be worried about trail riding that fast. The trails by me have speed limits of 30 mph and less. Besides, I would just miss the scenery.
The only thing that every bothered me was after I bought and looked at the price of the lock n ride accessories. They must be extremely profitable for Polaris. You can make the same attachment mechanism over at the hardware store for under $5. You can search the topic or post again and I'll show you my version.

Lock & ride are expensive but damn, they fit nice. L & R windshield and ffront mount bag aren't compatible. WS hits the bag when turning and sometimes sticks on it-dangerous.

If price isn't an issue the 400 would be my choice. You will never regret having a little more power and if you ever decide to sell I think the 400 would be easier down the road. My Mom in her 60's has an older 400 and is not to heavy to manuever.

I have a K&N as the only mod. & on flats max out around 53 with the right winds & saw 60 one time down hill but i only weigh 160#, im sure that makes a little difference.
Probably wont get that high now with the mile marker 3500# on the front.
You WILL NOT go wrong or be disappointed with the 400!!! awesome power in mud, hills etc..., awesome suspension.
