atv titles ?

I'm not sure they are mandatory here or not, but I wouldn't hand over any money for a vehicle unless a clear title is handed to me...
If I were in your shoes, maybe the seller can go have it titled. If not I think I'd look elsewhere.

Call a Tag Agent and ask when the law went into effect.
In OK they started selling them with titles in '07 I believe. You can get titles but, not required. Not even for insurance purposes.
I sold a banshee about a year ago and the guy would not believe me. He just kept saying "it should have a title". I told him to call my mother who is a TAG AGENT to tell him that there was no title. I had even given him the original paperwork from the dealer. He just wouldn't believe me. He wound up taking it anyway but, I wanted to choke the guy.
Don't be like one of those guys. If it wasn't sold with a title don't expect a owner to get one just because. Get a bill of sell and you can get one if you want.

Was another post about this same thing in Ohio. Buyer didn't have a title, so they couldn't get the stickers to ride on the trails. You may have to get a bonded title. Costs more, and of course, more hassle. But, at least you'll be able to legally ride.

I live in Arizona
We now have an Off Highway Vehicle tag effective 01/01/2009
To get OHV tag must get through Motor Vehicle Department
I had to get bond for 5 vintage ATCs
It was not to bad
The bonds were about $75 ea processing plates and OHV tags were $40 each
On my Quads since they are street legal here in AZ so we can ride to trails from cabin without getting busted
allong with street registration we also have to get the OHV tag and have to take them through vehicle emissions testing
But that is in AZ
Anyway Bond no big deal
Good luck

I just spent most of a week in AZ. I sure wish we could ride on the streets like that here in Oregon...

Title transfer, license and sales tax here in Washington State ran around $500 on my new Rancher 420. Even if you are buying used you pay sales tax when you transfer title and you have to transfer title to get the license; however, the license doesn't doesn't allow you run on the roads, just a handful of trails.

I have bought ATV's in Michigan and Illinois. Both had title with part of the sale. Not sure why Ohio would be different!!
Though I don't think you would need a title to insure it. All they asked for was serial number and other specifics to the quad. Title was never mentioned.
