Default Down and Out

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
2001 500 sportsman I was getting ready to snowplow and started to smell something like rubber burning well i went to shut it off and the key didnt want to turn off but i got it i took off the headlight cover and noticed the ignition wires had melted some and also the key will no longer turn on or off. I could start the quad by pull starting it but once i shifted in to gear it would die out any idea's where to start and what might have caused this to happen?
Thanks
Tim

Repair the burnt wires first, also check where they are tied into main harness directly behind headlight pod. Have had a couple do the same thing. Usually caused from rubbing back and forth and wires tied too tight. Switch hopefully will be ok.
