Buy a Honda TRX420
#1
Hello Guys,
I am newbie in the ATV world, and I am worried because I have read that the TRX420 have problems with the Electronic changes, I just bought one. Unfortunately I did not find this forum before.
I thought it was a good buy, but should I be worried now?? What do you recommend me?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

Welcome to the forum.
The 420 Rancher is an excellent handling, reliable and snappy machine, and is a good choice for light chores and general trail riding.
If you got the electric shift, you see threads about the earlier ones needing an angle sensor or whatever. Newer ones are better.
If you are going to go into deep water and mud all the time, unhooking the battery and pulling all the electric connectors apart to pack them with diaelectric grease would go a long way in preventing future problems.
Anyway, enjoy the machine safely.

Thanks a lot Jeffin,
It is a 2007 model (used 60 hrs), I don't think I'll be into water and mud very often since I am still learning.
I did not want an automatic since I want to go to a FM later and I thought that beginning with a ES would be a better beginning.
I feel better with you answer, anyway I'll be aware with your recommendations.
Thanks once again
Best Regards

I have an 07 rancher with lift and 27s and abuse the hell out of it. I' ve had no issues with my es but alot of people have. I took and put grease on the plug and sprayed silicone spray on mine. Its located on the right front of the trans just look directly behind right front tire. One thing I would check on is taht honda had recall on the front axels on the 07 for the boot ripping and locking it up. They will replace with no charge. Just call your local dealer and they will set up an appointment gor you.

All I can say I hope you don't have any issue but some people do and some don't....

Hello Guys,
I'll call the Honda dealer today. I have been reading a lot about this issue and as you said some have it some don't ... I'll try to prevent it following your recommendations.
Thanks a lot!

My bet is that you will change the oil, filter, axles and stuff on schedule... and the thing will run for thousands and thousands of hours.
If some day you have to replace an angle sensor or something, I'd consider it a small price to ride the machine with the features you want.

Also the rear diff is something you will have to keep an eye on, changing the diff fluid every couple of rides because of water getting in. Also if you get the 09 AT then don't worry about it because its a sealed diff with brake disc not a drum brake.
