Default Replacing the gas gauge in a Hawkeye

Hi All,
Has anyone ever changed a gas gauge in a Hawkeye (or 300 Sportsman)? Mine qiut working so I looked online to see what the parts would cost, pretty reasonable, around 25 dollars. When I took the cover off the top of the tank, it wasn't clear what was holding it in. So I called my dealer and he said it wasn't replaceable, that you had to buy a new tank. I have trouble believing this since an OEM part is available to fix it. Has anyone else run into this?
Thanks,
Jeff

There is a previous thread on this subject. It is replaceable, but you'll have to search for the thread. Good luck.
