Normal operating RPM levels for SP800 (2008)?
#1
After cleaning my K&N filter, I lightly and evenly like the
directions say used the spray oil on my filter then slipped
over the outterware cover. When I first started my quad
it made a small backfire? Then after that everything revv'd
and idled normal. I DID NOTICE that my RPM levels are
steady at 1320. Does anyone know what it should be and
is this normal or NOT?
I hope it is not too rich! Because I am stuck in my back yard
I couldn't really do any more than ride a few circles around
two trees, seems to be performing good, without hesitation or
studdering etc. etc.
Thanks for any input!

that is what I thought! When I got my SP450 around there after CARB maintenance it ran GREAT!
I thought that was a little high.
Okay so if I over oiled the filter any tricks to the trade Vs. cleaning it all again?
Thanks,

hi there i live in the the middle of bc canada at about 2000 ft above sea level and my 08 800 runs at the same 1340 rpms when it is warmed up so im not sure if it is right but it has run there since day 1 have 66 hrs and 1000 kms on it so im not sure if elevation on temperature has anything to do with it or not seems fine to me

I'M in Florida and when its below say 45 outside my 700 will run at about 1320RPM until it gets up in temp about 5min it will fall to the normal 1180.

1320 isnt all that bed. specs around 1100-1300RPMS.
IMO there is no such thing as "over oiling" a filter. the only time that i could see it hurting anything is if you were oiling a prefilter for a paper filter. then the paper would catch the excess oil causing a rich condition in the motor.
if there is a little more oil on the filter that needed the air intake will suck that in and burn it off through the motor. no big deal.

actually, if it isn't creaping and it doesn't shift hard it shouldn't hurt anything...spec for top idle speed is 1300 RPMs, check the Throttle stop screw setting if you feel it is too high...also check to make sure the throttle cable isn't kinked or sticking.

Cool, all good info. I will start it over the weekend and let it sit
and monitor it. My to-do list is growing, LOL. Need to check my
brake fluid too, I believe like OPT said it was probably overfilled
from factory!
Thanks,

actually on a fuel injected bike, u can over oil a filter, and clog up ur t bap sensor, seen it before, all covered with kn filter oil</end quote></div>
I would agree. If there are any sensors between the filter and the injectors, over oiling could cause some issues.
It's best to clean and oil these filters as directed. If there is a TPS sensor of some type, over oiling can play havoc.
