Default Rancher 420 performance without harm to engine etc?

Just getting tired of not being able to keep up with my buddy and my dad who are both running yamaha 450 kodiak/grizzly. I just want to be able to maybe run a bit larger tire to gain a little top end speed not much but just a little. But i want the motor to be able to keep up with a larger tire. Also what would be a good tire for a 420 4x4 without adding much weight and without losing the awesome handling. I know some of this has been covered in previous questions but i wanted to make it clear that i only want a little power to compensate for a larger tire WITHOUT HARMING THE MOTOR OR ANYTHING ELSE. Thank you in advance.

Do what I did because I too didn't want to mess with the engine. Power Commander III, Uni Air filter, and HMF Pipe all that will get you what you want. Tires I love the Swamplite 26" or 27" will fit perfect and ride good for all conditions.

Its loud but not loud like the big bore bikes, they make the quite core if you want, people say it helps but I like it loud!

Thanks amuro
did you notice quite a bit of difference with all three? I'm reading that just a slip on hmf exhuast gets 7 horse? Is that true cuz if so thats considerable for a rancher is it not?

To get more performance, you want to get more air in and out of the engine. This will require more fuel to keep the ratio of air to fuel correct. Your FI can compensate for small changes, but large changes will require a "remap".

What I really notice is low end power and a bit faster then before with the mods, Not sure how much you do gain but the difference was noticeable. No you don't need to remap but I do recommend to take it to a Dyno tune shop if you do get the PCIII. Every bike is different so the generic maps that Power commander give you is ok. I'm running it on the factory programming right now and its fine for now. I have a map that a friend gave me at Honda of Houston but I haven't used that map yet, I'll send it to you if you get the PCIII.

That's cool and I know what your going through too! I recommend Uni Air filter, PCIII, and HMF Pipe that will help you out with out messing with the engine. Let me know when you ready!
