Try squeezing or stepping on the brake while you're trying to start. It sounds like it's in gear.

sounds like it might not be staying in neutral, how are the linkage joints on the shift shaft assembly? if they are loose/worn, out of adjustment it will be hard for the trans to stay in neutral.
yes it has a neutral switch, and there are no switches to the throttle.

the starter and or solenoid could be bad. if you just paid 200 bucks for the quad, put it in the shop and let them fool with it. even if you have to spend 300 more on it, 500 bucks on a running quad is still a great deal. i replaced my starter from a company online, the stealership wanted 179 bucks for the starter and i found it online for 80 bucks new plus shipping. if they tell you what parts it needs and you can save a shitload from ordering them online and replacing them if you can, then go that route. the place i got my starter from is listed below.

DB Electrical

great place to do business with. if you need any part for any quad, go there. fast shipping with a no hassle return policy.
