I was at the Cycle World show this weekend and I saw the new Rancher 420 there. I've heard a lot of good things about it, but WOW is it ugly. I was thinking it would look a lot better if you took the front racks and that horrifying front plastic grille off.

Has anyone done it?

 

"Looks" aren't that important to me, but I wouldn't mind lightening it up. I have seen the old Ranchers where they pulled off the racks and etc., and got rid of 50 pounds of dead weight.

Thing is, the Rancher 420 racks are pretty minimalist to start with, so I don't see much in the way of weight savings there.

There are some aftermarket front ends out there, but they go the wrong way (make it even heavier) from the direction I want to go....

 

Truthfully i like the big upswept fron fenders on my rancher i believe it makes it look a tad sportier than the outgoing model and way sportier than my old 99 fourtrax 300fw [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] just my 2 cents there though

Well I agree on the front fenders, I think they look great! Its the big black front grille that bugs me! If you took that off along with the front racks, I think it would look a ton better!

 

i've thought about taking my plastic bumper off and having my gf's brother make a grill guard for it instead. He has an 07 rincon and made a headlight grill guard for it that follows the curves in the plastic and the headlights, (something like the chevy grille guards do on the "cat eye" headlight trucks from 03 to 07 classic) and man does it look slick, it fits fairly close and tight to the plastic and just blends right it. (He's a welder for the railroad and he bent up some tubing at work and it just looks dang nice way better than my plastic bumper does.)
