Default honda troubleshooting

I have a 86 honda trx250r. i am having trouble getting it started. i have checked about everything i can think of... plug, plug wire, checked the omhs on the cdi and the coil wire. checked for spark and made sure that the stator was still in place...key way was not broke. took the carb off and cleaned it. but when i kick it over it will run for a second and die. Then it will not kick over at all unless i give it a little gas. (but same thing) run for a sec and die. I must be missing somthing.. any suggestions.

When you say it won't kick over, I presume you mean that it won't fire or start, not that the engine seizes and won't turn?

Running for a second, then dying unless you give it gas to me would indicate the idle/low speed passages in the carb are still gummed up.

I'd pull it off again, take out all the jets, and the idle mixture screw if so equipped (turn it in until it seats gently first, counting the number of turns so you can get it back). Then blast out every hole and passage with a good carb cleaner (I like chemtool B-12). Don't forget the little ports inside the bore of the carb.

A lot of machines also have a fine screen attached to the petcock, usually held to the tank by a couple small bolts. If yours is like that, you might pull that too, and make sure the screen is clean.

Welcome to the forum, and post back to let us know how you make out.

Default Trx 250 problems????

Im not sure if my TRX350 has the same wiring etc but,,,,, Do you have an electric fuel pump on your bike??? My pump was working but the fuel relya would work intermitenly so i replace this and had no fiurther issues.. Another issue was the wires going to hte CDi were not tight in the boot. it fas a fluk that i found it just going around wiggleing the connections and found this area to be a problem as well... You can read the posts and the help i got by reading the posts under, Ponyboy007 or 1987 trx 350 just dies on me....If you have the machine running already good for you and keep riding!!!
