my dirtbike went bad yesterday,,,it just started to do this yesterday.........

well sorta yesterday,,the day before that it was a little hard to start(the compression is a little lower then normal) but i had boot so it started one kick and my freinds didnt have boots,about 10 kicks......but it ran pretty good


but yesterday i go to start it to take it home(from my freinds house) and it owuldnt start,,,so we try to run and start it,it worked once,,,then wouldnt work after that anymore.....when i try to kick it....it just go "blop" and wouldnt start,it didnt even sound like it wanted to start.......and sometimes it would let out this snappy pop sound when i kick it.....and we tryed to push it down the street a couple of times but when i try to get it started it just goes "blop..blop.blop" and stops..........it wouldnt start at all,we tryed for 1 hour and half to start it but it didint work,,,,,,we let it sit for 15 minutes incase it was flodded,,,still the same,,we changed the spark plug,nothing differnt..............and to think,just the other day it owuld start without a problem.........


does anyone know what could be the problem and how to fix it? maybe it needs a new top end? the top end on it right now is about 6 months old(somewhere around there)..........

we put lawn mower oil in it since we didnt have the right oil for it a few days ago,,,,and it ran fine,(we didnt put in the normal amount,we put less oil)......but it still ran fine and everything,,,it just started to screw up on me yesterday and i have no clue on what is wrong..........


could someone help me and let me know what i should do and how to do it?

 

I don't know much about dirtbikes ut this happens to my kickstart 250X all the time. A new plug usually helps so make sure it is the right time with the right gap length. If that doesn't work take the cdi box off and spray a squirt of WD-40 in it and put it back and try. Good luck

 

so after i do that it will work like it use to??????


we did change the plug,,it was the right one,so i guess im gonna have to try the cdi box thing........


i asked this question somewhere else and one person said that i should clean my silencer and repack it,,,and if that does work i would need to buy a new stator and cdi box..........


and for the compression the said i do need a new top end.........


but your pretty sure thats all i have to do to make it work how it did?

i looked at cr 250 that did that,it turned out it had a broken reed.
once the reed was replaced that things screamed.

 

broken reed........so i guess i should go to the motorcycle store and buy a new one? thats what someone else said,to check and see if the reed is cracked or broke and to replace it and do the thing to the silencer........thanks for your help!

You should hook a compression tester up first and make sure you have good compression, at least 100 PSI. If you don't then it's your top end. If you do then put in fresh gas. Take the plug out and while it's still attached to the wire ground it and see if it's getting strong spark to the plug. If not then it's probably your CDI. If you have strong spark check your reeds. Nobody can tell you exactly what will fix it because it can be any of those things.

 

Before you go spend a lot of money on parts, why not try this... Pull your plug, shut off your gas, and kick the engine over several times with the plug out in order to pump out all the fuel you loaded the cylinder with. Then, since the new plug you had is probably fouled from all the kicking, put in a new plug after gapping it, turn on your gas and start the engine

and crawdad,im not sure if i have a tool to test the compression(where would i get one?) so i dont know if i oculd do that. yesterday,we did that thing with the plug. we unscrewed it,but kept it plug into the wires/tube and i kicked it and my freind said it was sparking ok(you could see the electric charge going threw the top 3 or 4 lines of the spark plug) so i dont think it is the cdi since im gettign a ok of a spark......after asking in serveral differnt forums,i think it is probably my reeds. so im gonna see if they are ok and if they arent,im going to buy new ones and a new spark plug......

the new plug we put in yesterday was off his yz80 and he used it twice already, i odnt think it was the right plug,,,but we took it out and it was fouled after trying for a half an hour.....so there is probably gas in my cylinder till and i need to take it out?
