Default carb adjustment on 425 magnum

I have a 96 magnum 425 4x4. I can get it to run great but it has an erratic low idle. Every time I throttle the idle is different. The adjusting screw is on the bottom of the carb next to the cylinder so I have to take the carb loose to try adjusting. Is there a special tool for adjusting these carbs on these models or could something else cause my problems. I have checked for air leakage and can't find any. I have replaced the needle and seat and also the slide needle and jet. I am at wits end.

Default carb adjustment on 425 magnum

Low profile carb adjust tool available through Parts Unlimited,Tucker Rocky and several others. Fuel air screw has a small washer and sealing o-ring and spring, have you taken completely out? 2 to 2 1/2 turns out from LIGHTLY SEATED position for starters! If tighten too hard can break small tip of needle into carb body. Dont know if this helps Also check carb intake boot for cracks, could also cause erratic idle.

Thanks for reply. I have taken the adjust screw out when i cleaned carb. Runs way to rich at 2 to 2 1/2. Have best luck at 1/2 turn but get erratic idle. Checked intake and didn't seem to find any leaks.

If runs best at 1/2 turn is jetting stock? O-ring and washer still in? O-ring not distorted/damaged? Also have you checked valves for being too tight? Can cause rich condition also mimicking carb problem!
