Need ATV for a project-- What to Buy?
#1
Hi, I'm looking for a vehicle for a project--- specifically to use to build a tow system for towing hang gliders and paragliders into the air. Currently they use Honda Elite scooters for this by removing the rear wheel and replacing it with a drum reel that holds about 3000 ft of rope or so. I live at 6000 ft elevation and the scooters aren't powerful enough at this elevation. So I was wondering if anyone knew of an ATV that might work. Here's what it takes----
At least 350cc water cooled ( the tow rig is stationary)
CVT transmission-- no shifting gears on tow!
Rear axle must "freewheel" when off the throttle, in other words, no engine
braking when idling. Keeps the glider from locking out if something
goes wrong. A very slight amount is OK.
Needs a rear brake so after glider releases, you can immediately stop the
drum from spooling rope off and making a big mess.
I've heard the old Polaris Sportsman might work--- but aren't they 2 stroke?
Thx, Toestub

im pretty sure the polaris magnum 325 is not 2 stroke, not sure if its what your looking for though. Plus i thought they had engine braking ONLY in the rear.

Theres also the newer Foreman 400, I would take this one bcs the tranny isn't powered by a traditional belt, but hydros, so no belt or clutch slipping. I don't think theres an engine brake.
