EFI vs CARB ---- Go figure
#1
Buddy's machine 500 X2 EFI on tracks.
My machine 400HO Carb on tracks.
Went on short ride - 12mi together.
When we refueled, he had burned 2 gals, I burned 1 gal.
Why such a difference?????????
Conditions were same for both of us and similar driving styles and both machines are well tuned & maintained.

Well being a 2x machine his is probably heavier, he also has 100cc more displacement than you, he is also probably geared different since it is a 2x machine.....add all those things together and of course he is going to burn more fuel.

Partially true, but the 400HO is 455CC and the 500 is slightly less than 500. Weight??, maybe.</end quote></div>
Could either come down to gearing, or perhaps you are running lean? Or he is running rich?
I'm not overly familiar with Polaris engines, are they both SOHC engines? Or is one a push-rod engine? That would make a difference too.
Also was he the lead ATV in the snow? Because the guy in the front will use more gas in packing the snow. The guy in the back will benefit from a "trail" already there and thus is meeting a lot less resistance.....

alot more weight and way differnt gearing on his. did he use low range as well which would put the rpms alot higher then yours at the same speed. oh course the cc differnce isnt huge but does make a differnce. imo.

2 gallons for 12 miles???? he has got to have some issue with his quad. Popo's are known for being gas hogs but 6 mpg is not right. even 12 miles is a bit low unless you are doing a lot of rock crawling or mudding.
