Default Honda Rancher Performance

So im looking high and low for some performance accessories for my 2007 honda rancher. i found some air filters but no K&N whieh is what i prefer to use i know some people say not to, but i ride mostly wet areas so sand isnt really a problem. i found some Fuel Injection management things. i see the HMF exhausts i can buy on ebay. however the only hmf exhaust i want is the SWAMP exhaust. not the XL just the regular SWAMP because its quieter than those racing HMF pipes. basically im just looking for some answers while venting. FMF doesnt even have a pipe for my rancher. these aftermarket companies should pull their heads out of the 650cc and up tail pipes and realize that not everyone can afford a $7000 and up (way up) machine. does anyone else feel this way about not being able to find accessories for their rancher? i know if i bought the 2006 rancher 350 i could do pretty much what ever i wanted to it. i know suzuki's LT-R450 has tons of hop up parts. i will bet you that yamaha's 2009 yfz 450r fuel injected quad has tons of aftermarket already. so what gives? i could care less about the high performance 450s. im just looking forward to being able to accessorise my rancher with something worth having.

There it not much aftermarket hop ups for any of the Honda OHV motors because there is not much you can do to those motors vs the more popular OHC motors everyone else uses including Honda, but they only use OHC on there sport ATVs.

Its the reason way Honda Utilities have 5% less HP compared to other ATV of the same displacement.

Example , a Honda 500 Foreman has 27hp vs a 500 Outlander with 40 HP or a SP500 with 35hp.

Get over this OHV/OHC thing already!!!! We Honda owner's know what we have, and we don't care to give it up for some tall engine that is going to raise our center of gravity.

You don't ever see me in the Polaris forum going on and on about their diddle headed designs and dubious quality. Go hang in the Polaris forum where you belong! It's getting old!

Just saying it cheaper to buy HP off the start than to try to add it later.

Leroy-

I have not explored the aftermarket much for the 420, but what looking I have done hasn't turned up much. For some reason, they don't seem to know that Honda made a model change. Even NGK who makes spark plugs, didn't have the 420 on their list. I called them, and they thanked me and said they would get it on the web site, but I checked the other day and they had still not done it.

Anyway....I find it does well enough stock, that I'm not in any big rush to mod it up anyway!

Great advice, but go say it in some other forum....where you actually own one of their machines!

Like I said, my Rancher is hot enough that I am not highly inclined to spend the money to mod it anyway.....

i realize that internally the engines of the honda ute's there isnt much that can be done. but that doesnt explain why K&N and other companies arent makine air filters, or exhaust systems. you can get air filters and exhaust systems for all of their other utes. i would have to say that the rancher 420 probably has more power in its class than the others in the 400-450 cc class. my 420 is actually faster (smaller though) than the honda foreman 500. im just looking to get a decent 5-10% increase in power to compensate for the 25" executioners i installed. being fuel injected installing a pipe filter and recalibrate the fuel injection, a 10% increase is probably very close to what is expected.

I would have to agree with my fellow rancher riders that on the trails it has plenty of power to keep things interesting. evertyhing i have ever owned has been modded a little bit. every car truck ATV has had aleast a K&N air filter and a pipe on it. i dont really need to upgrade my rancher. however it would be nice to be able to modify if i ever wanted to.

You may want to take the dimensions of the stock filter, and send those (email) to K&N just to see if maybe they have someone that would check with the filters they have. Who knows, they may have one for the Rancher already and just don't know it.

Heck, you might as well tell them you'd be willing to test one out, for free.

You can measure the diameter of the intake and go straight to their site to match the size up with a part number. They'll have several filter sizes that will work. Works pretty good when you can re-jet but you're saying it has electronic fuel injection? If so, not sure I'd mess with it.
