I have a 2003 Sportsman 400 that I am very happy with. I bought it in August 2008, and have really fallen in love with it. The wife is looking at getting into the sport as well. She likes my machine, so I am going to take her enthusiasm as an opportunity to upgrade for myself. I have been watching all winter and stumbled upon this last night:

http://www.canadatrader.com/us...00_yellow_996700.html

It is a 2004 Sportsman 600 with 200 miles on it. It has a plow, winch and 26in Mudlites. They are asking $5495 Canadian (~$4200 US). Its 300 miles away.

Should I drive there this weekend and bring it home? Let me know what you think!!

As long as it is built AFTER February 03 then has updated ignition system! ONE thing in its favor! The rest of it depends on the shape of the machine and whether you like it! Early ignition systems(DUCATI) were the main problem.

Did you price a brand new Sportsman 500 or a 2008 left-over at the dealer?.......
I know here in Ontario, I can get a new Sportsman 500 for about $6900.00
Prices out west may be alot higher though,Don't know.................Caper...........

I've also looked at new. I know that I want to have a plow, winch and decent tires. So, $6900+winch+plow+tires+tax = way more than $5495. I'm certain that if I wanted to, I could buy it, bring it home, strip it of accessories and sell it for what they are asking. Markets are not down here at all.

Is there anything I should be careful of, other than old style ignition?

The only other things I would worry about is look at the rubber intake boots between airbox and carb and the carb to motor because they're prone to cracking.

I called and put down a deposit this morning. Sometime in the next two weeks I will have to go pick it up. It comes with 30 days warranty from date of pickup. I'm excited!
