Default opnions on 300ex's

im looking into buying a nicely 300ex, i do trail rideing with some open fields and mostly just messing around. i was looking into getting a 400ex, but they do not have reverse until 2005.....it would be stupid for me to not have reverse. iv heard man good things about the 300ex's. what engine mods could be done, i plan on keeping for a while, bigbore kits?

you can put just abpot any headlight on them, their good quads, but when you get it, the first thing you should do is put wheel spacers on it and nerf bars, their fine from the factory but mine stayed on 2 wheels around sharp corners when i first got it, but after i widened it, it just slides and handles better...

It is a great little trail quad. I had one years ago, when the only 4-strokes available were the Warrior (had one of those too...big mistake!) and the 300EX.

They are of course underpowered, but if one just trail rides, more horsepower is just wasted. In open country, it will fall behind badly...however.

These are solid machines, but once you start going beyond just the basic mods like air intake and exhaust, and tear into the engine, that legendary Honda reliability will be gone.

underpowred..really? because my 85 lt230 keeps up just fine trail or open country. a 400ex with no reverse would be a waste...i dont feel like pushing it backwards and cant afford a newer one with reverse. i was looking at warriors, but cant see the advantage, plus the designe is dated.
