the rear shock looks like an excellent unit, the question is are they rebuildable?
question 2. i was taking the motor out of the frame and found a vent hose coming off the back of the engine connecting to nothing. is this the way it is suppose to be? i thought maybe it would connect to the air box. i broswed threw the clymer last night and couldnt find it. but will look threw again tonight.

The rear shock is rebuildable. You can make it better by putting the Race Tech gold valve in it. That hose coming from the back of the engine is the vent for the crankcase. You can just run it back to the ground between the engine and the front of the swingarm.

I would suggest fishing the breather hose up into the frame then back down. Cut a new piece of hose to make it longer if you have to. When I completely rebuilt my engine last yeaqr I found some dirt in the compartment where that hose enters the engine.

What tprender said. I had mine rebuilt by Works with their insides. Ran it that way a couple of years before I finally bought a whole new Works rear shock. But the rebuild was only $149, and they replacement from Works was $700. Rebuilt stockers work fine....
