Default 96 Sportsman 500 4x4

it seems to be a nice atv (one owner).........1st Polaris for me.....Anyone have info on it ?

in need of a repair/maint. manual ....??

KEEP the rear driveshaft u-joints greased regularly!

there seems to be lots of zert fittings on it....I don t have a book to show locations for all ......anyone know how many ?

I noticed the rear brake pads are very thin....are they difficult to change out?

grease zerts---33 forget about the rear brake they are junk

new pads waste of money will kind of work about 4-5 times and then be like they are now

I have 1997 sportsman 500 4x4 9,279 on it use to ride alot now just deer hunting and plowing driveway

33 zerts -------Ouch !

Guess I need to find a manual for that thing .....??????

Do I need to change the drive belt or wait until it breaks ?

I use it for hunting and light work in yard/garden.......

I am on my 3rd belt, didn't realy need one but was just servicing eveything and getting ready for deer hunting and the winter of plowing.

Dang... and I thought my '98 with 5,400 miles was getting "long in the tooth."
That being said, mine is still going strong but has had regular maintenance and dealer service throughout its life. Just replaced the drive belt around 5,000 (which I guess is the normal interval, it wasn't broken) and it had the cam replaced a couple years back due to a lot of wear (another "common" problem, apparently related to very cold starting and thick oil). Everything else is top notch. I'm actually surprised by how tough and long-lived these things are. I haven't been too rough with it, either, though.

This PS 500 only has 4000 mi ....but will ck out the belt when I download that manual...
