installing new piston
#1
I will soon be putting engine back together with rebored cylinder and new piston and I am wondering best way to do it
of course to take apart I slid cylinder off first and removed piston
if I do in reverse I am thinking it will be hard to get rings in properly [and a ring compressor is $17.50] but I am wodering if it may be possible to install piston/cylinder on bench [which is easy] and lower the lot over the crank and locate the gudgeon pin and clips

yes, I don't think I would be confident of getting the rings seated exactly right unless I was able to move the piston up and down on the bench without con rod connected, and actually observe the end gap

its actually really easy. if you look at the bottom of the cylinder, youll notice that the base of the cylinder opening is tapered. this way you can compress the rings with your fingers, and using a little oil, the rings will go into the cylinder.
