Broken rear driveshaft on 97 Sportsman
#1
I have two 97 polaris 500's with the u-joints in on both ends of the driveshafts. Problem is I keep breaking u-joints or yolks every year already broke one this year been out once, everything is always greased, I was wondering if I could put newer rear shafts with the cv-joints to help with the problem, has anyone done this swap?

i think it requires getting the newer hubs also. there have beena couple of guys on here that have done a conversion (couldnt tell you which ones or what year models they were using) but i has been done on polaris models

I had this problem on my old 97 sportsman i took some steel cable and bolted one end to the frame and the other to the lower a-arm. I never had this problem again. It only seemd to happen when the back tires came off the ground just my opinion

I just did this swap about a month ago on my 98. I had to replace the outter bearing housings along with the cv shafts and the upper a-arms and then slot the holes on the forward upper mount to fit the new upper a-arm. Get all your parts from a 98-02 sportsman 335-500 and they will work. I got all my parts from ebay for about $350. I would not think twice about doing this again, I have had no problems at all. I do have an extra set of upper a-arm if you need them. If you have questions, just ask.

I have both rear driveshafts, they both have new u-joints in them, however, one of them has the caps welded to the yoke (for strength) the other is okay. make an offer. email me at jabraham17@yahoo.com
