First Bike, 2003 Trail Blazer 250, 1st post here

I just picked up this bike a couple days ago, non running condition. No compression to speak of (55psi), so I took the jug off and found the piston had a little movement in the cylinder. I found a local guy who'll bore it out and install a new piston for a total price of around $160.00.
While I'm at it, I was wondering if there is anything else I should look for before taking it out for a ride. I noticed the chain was a little loose, but I have no idea on how to tighten that up or if I should just get a new one.
I'm a snowmobile guy expanding my recreation opportunities, so I plan on hanging out on these forums a lot. I've done a lot of searching and this forum seems to have the most activity.
Thanks for the info if anyone has advice.

Make sure he looks it over good. Last year my 250 quit on the trail and I towed it home with no compression. Turns out crank bearing cage fell apart and ran through engine. We ending up overhauling the whole engine. Crank was OK. We are still breaking it in before out first trip.
