Is it a 2000? IF you haven't done so check the throttle cable for full open. The biggest difference on a stock 400EX is jetting. Remove or drill holes in the airbox. Buy a K&N power kit or Dyno jet kit and if you want a little more noise, (no spark arrestor) and a cheap pipe unbolt the end cap and cut the silencer down about an inch. Below 3000 feet run the third clip and the 155 main jet. air/fuel 3.5 turns out. That is about all the motor mods under $200. Bolt ons may be kill teather, nerfs, bumper, skids, griphics kit is know to add power... LAter

You could also get a 14 tooth front sprocket. You will accelerate faster and it dosent hurt you topend that much. They cost around 15-25 dollars

I would have to say a 416 kit for about 170 and 30 to bore it. you might be able to find it for less. get the 11 to 1 so you can still run pump gas. for about 115, you can get an xr400 cam from servicehonda. then get a 165 main and a 45 pilot and put a 4" hole in your airbox lid. Grand total $350 if you can do some of the work yourself. Closer to $500 if you have a shop do all the work.

for one 350 for a 416? WOW....never heard of it that low...mine was almost 1300....you didnt tell him about those 4 rocker arms having to be treated and new gasket sets and all that other stuff...and its worthless to get that without some head work and a pipe and filter to get full potential out of it...and you say run just pump gas with a 11:1....better stop that...atleast mix it man...10:5 run pump, 11:1 atleast mix or almost strait and so on....youre taking a chance but its your quad.....

personally, i dont know what kind of riding yorue doing....for 200 i would get 18 inch tires and 8 inch rims...for the rear of course, and gear it right, and youll be able to accelerate like crazy out of 2nd gear.....skys the limit, but im still baffeled with that 350 and pump gas...guess its just me!!!
