Default KFX 400 reverse works TOO MUCH!

i have 2004 kawasaki kfx 400. I have been having reverse problems with it. i need help bad. it is frustrating me beyond my limits. Usually i would have to have the quad in gear/neutral then turn the reverse **** and then kick the shifter down to engage the reverse. BUT.... instead now if i shift down past first it will automatically throw my quad in reverse without having to turn the ****. I took the reverse **** and cable off and the same thing happens. so i have no idea what to do. please help. thanks

if this fourwheeler is like the mojave than there is a little pivot that the reverse cable connects too it could be stuck. if thats not the case then you may have a broken shift drum which means you have to split the block and its in the middle of the trans and its quite a job to say the least. i just put one in my fourwheeler last week because it was goin into reverse all the time when i shifted down just like yours. hope this helps

thank you for the reply. i did check the pivot thing you talked about and it seems to rotate fine. so i guess i would have to split the block and i cant do that. i am not a mechanice. well thanks for the reply

if you can grab that little rod that sticks out of the block and spin it without it shiftin into gears that means teh drum is broke for sure. yea i understand it is a real bitch to fix. im not an atv mechanic either but i have worked on cars all my life so i guess technically i am pretty well mechanically inclined.
