what type of air snorkel is on the 400EX?

is it a plastic high-rise one that comes up out of the airbox, or does it just use the two frame tubes like on my 250X?

It's a plastic tube similar to the one on the 250R. It's not at all like the 250X.

is the intake opening higher than the airbox or does it just kinda go out towards the front?

It is slightly higher than the airbox. The intake is beneath the gas tank.
