Default KFX 400 rebuild, now not starting

I had to split the case on 03 KFX 400 and replace a reverse driven gear that broke. Upon reassembly I'm very sure I got the timing chain aligned properly on the intake and exhaust cams using the arrows and counting teeth, never had the head apart as far as valves, dissassembled and cleaned the carb, stariner in the fuel tank, and cant get the sucker to start. It will fire occasionally. New plug as well. Do I need some starting fluid to prime the system? Any other suggestions and tips would be appreciated. Thank you.

What do you mean by "Fire occasionally"?

I wouldn't use any starter fluid..... Did you take the carb completely apart? Did you get it back together exactly how it came apart? (just askin) I'm leaning towards the carb as long as you know for sure the timing is fine.
