Oil for Honda 250 recon?

These are the basics....if you pick a motorcycle specific oil that is rated API SG/JASO MA, you won't go wrong. Beyond that, the synthetics have huge advantages over petroleum oil. Oil is a huge subject! There is basic old petroleum, and three very different types of synthetics. Different additive packages, friction modifiers, etc., etc.
Some good reads. Read these, and you will know way more than the guy standing behind the counter at the motorcycle or auto parts store:

I recommend anything from Maxima. For the little Recon, petroleum based Premium is just fine, but Blend is better, and Extra is better yet.

As for what weight, in most of the country 10W40 is a good summer oil. 10W30 if you live where the summers are cool. If you happen to live where it is extremely hot, then 15W50 for summer.
In winter, 10W30 if you live where the winters are mild, and 5W30 if your winters are cold.

Mobil 1 use to be Group IV PAO, but now appears to have been changed to Group III. It is motorcycle oil and SG/MA, so that is good! But...it is expensive, and for that much money you could have gotten the finest Group V ester instead....

Next time I'll go to the Honda dealer. I would have this time but the dealer is located in another city and my son couldn't wait to ride.
Any other advice for the first time ATV/Honda Recon owner ?
TIA!
