i own a kfx 400 and the starter is acting up. i have power to the starter and it turns the middle gear connected to the motor gear. However it just spins freely and doesnt durn the engine over i was wondering if anyone has had anything like this happen to them?

 

I guess I would wonder if the motor will bump start. I put a Sparks timing advanced key in our 400 and during break in it kicked back and sheared the key. It took some thinking because it was like the starter wasnt doing a thing but it was because the flywheel was just spinning. Hopefully this isn't what happened to you.

 

i found out what the problem was the 06 models and older have had problems with the six flywheel bolts that connect to the starter gear slowly backed out and began rubbing on the stator and back out enough that they finally sheared off and now i have to buy a custom flywheel puller to pull it off and replace the sheared bolts and mangled stator
