The mags. give it both the 550 and 850 really great reviews! The only negative I hear on the 550 is that they seem to be underpowered. Again not sure what they are comparing it to? Others in the mid class range is my guess? Both seem like a really better engineered ATV's. I like mine but it is a TANK, LOL..LOL

I have the 550xp and so far have 1900 miles on it...Never had a problem since day one. Rides better than my 07 500, has more power. steers easier (did not get power steering). You would be very satisfied as long as your not needing the power of a twin...

Probably 10% more. Its most evident mid-range and up.

I think the 550XP is the perfect quad. The suspension allows for an awesome ride, handling and for it's size and weight very maneuverable. The power is good, IMO probably perfect for a utility quad except for the guys that like the big HP's and for them there are the 700's, 800's, and 850's.

The 500's take a wix 51358 the 6-7-800's take a wix 51357, Not sure about the 550 and 850 , should be able to see if polaris kit is the same number as the 5-6 -7 or 800.

Yea I think that is what is lacking in my setup is the maneuverability! I like the feel on the ride (suspension wise), the power and utility. But the turning, the jumping effect of the throttle control, I would love to TEST drive a 550 and 850 to compare. My dealer down in W-VA doesn't do that. Not sure where I could go to try one out. If I found that it rides soo much better and I could trade both bikes on a 850 then I will go that route. Still losing money on the deal but thats the PRICE I guess we all pay in this hobby eh?
For some reason I think I would still owe with two trades!

yea one of my old dealers would only let you try a bike out on the pavement(small area) and wouldnt let you touch the dirt. what a joke. you cant even tell how it handles imo. ya bud, you will loose your but trading both bikes for sure.

I agree! The mid range seems to be where the power advantage is over the 500. Top end I have got my 550 to 62mph. That was on pavement and flat road. I weigh about 250. I used to have a 02 500 ho. Top speed on that was also about 60 mph.
