Default 2008 Big Bear 400 Jet Install

I bought an HMF exhaust for my Big Bear. The company I got it from included a new jet but there were no installation instructions. I'm mechanical and can probably figure it out but just need a little guidance. Can anybody show me where some directions are or tell me what I need to do...

Thanks in advance

you take the bottom half of the carb off (fuel bowl) be carefull not to strip the crappy screws, then youll see the main jet...its number 10 in this picture, remove it then replace it with the new main jet tighten it snug not real tight, if they break off it can be a real pain to get out, then put the bowl back on and your done.

Thanks for that. Would it hurt my motor to install the new jet without the next exhaust. It won't be here for a week or two.

You might want to go ahead and replace the carb screws with some allen heads. Makes it a lot easier to get in and out of the bottom of the carb in the future. What size did they send you? I think the stock was a 112.5. I put in the 120, but it ran to rich judging by the spark plug, so I put in the 115 and it seemed to even out better. I run a K&N filter with outerwear and 6 uni-vents in my air box.

They sent me a 120. Mine is completely stock at the moment but the one and only upgrade is going to be the exhaust. I'm guessing it would be beneficial to just by a jet kit??

Well I just bit the bullet and got a Dynojet kit. What size hex screws would I need to replace the crappy stock ones??

Alright I got the exhaust and put it on just to see how it sounds, good I might add, and I let it run for a little bit and it seemed to run fine without switching jets. I took it for a ride, didn't get above 30 mph because I didn't know if not switching jets would harm anything, and it still seemed to run fine. Do I really need to install a new jet. I live in west central WI if that helps and I also did install the HMF Quiet Core because my dad rides it sometimes.

Anybody. I did get it up to top speed without an issue, around 47 mph so it didn't really give me anymore top speed. It still seems to run fine. I'm assuming I would notice it not running right from the get go...

if there isnt alot of pop on decel and it doesnt bog or hiccup at full throttle from take off or full throttle top speed it doesnt bog or hiccup then most likely it might be fine, the quiet core prolly makes it run ok without a rejet at your elevation, if you removed the core it would run a tad bit leaner.

There isn't much pop when I let off the throttle. Maybe one or two then it is fine. I did run it without the quiet core as well just to see if I gained any more speed, which I didn't, and it still seemed to run fine, just louder. I put the quiet core back in. I'll just continue to run it this way and if I notice any issues I will use the jet kit. Then when winter comes I'm sure it will be a different story but that won't be fore a while so I'll just wait and see. Thanks for the help.
