Default Help Predator shutting off while driving!!

Hey all,
Lat week I got my son a 2004 predator and this weekend was his maiden voyage. One problem is that while he is driving, the bike will just shut all power down just as if we turned off the key. The motor quits and all power to lights, fan etc. is off. If we just wait about 1-1.5 minutes, it will come back on and we can start and go for about ten minutes again until it does it again. Is there a relay of some sort that would kill all power? He's pretty disappointed, so I'm hoping someone here can help me. I called a dealer yesterday and he told me it's probably a ground....I said I didn't think so as that would cause intermittent problems and he said, I don't know then. Please reply if you have an idea. There is a square unit next to the battery that has power wires running to it and I thought maybe that was a relay of some sort? Thanks alot!

A loose ground could still be the cause of the problem, even though intermittent. It is free to make sure all grounds are making good contact! Next step would be to rule out the ignition box. That may be your culprit, especially being 5 years old. How to test one is beyond my expertise, that's when it goes to the shop! LOL!

I had a similar problem and it ended up being an ignition wire that had rubbed raw and was grounding out. It was one that ran down the steering stem and under the front plastic piece.

Not to promote another site, but there is one that used to be called predatorowners, but merged with another site. There are lots of pred owners there and very knowledgeable. Ya might wanna give it a try...

Yeah, 400x is right. I come here for all my sportsman questions. I go to polaris riders for predator questions. There are a lot of predator owners on there, some racers. Good advice. Just be patient, no where near as busy as this site. In fact, I have referred some people on that site who have sportsmans to this site. They should just merge! LOL!
