How mechanically inclined are you?

Depending on model, year, and price, it would be a fun project. I've been trying to find a roached 250R that I can rebuild from the ground up.

I had a friend do that with a LT250R. He had about $6000 in it before it was done. He only got $3500 out of it when he sold it. It's amazing how much Japanese parts cost. I think he said that he had about $700 dollars just in bearings.

#1, do you have lots of spare money?
#2, do you have lots of spare time?
If you diddnt answer yes to the top two then it probally wouldnt be worth it, BUT if the price is a "cant go wrong deal" then what the heck, buy it?! Also does it need just a top-end or is the bottom end all messed up also?

Its a 96 shee that will need a new sleeve on the right side and a top end, possibly a crank.I don't have a whole lot of time or money, i just figured I could get it for cheap and pay a mechanic to rebuild it.Hes asking 1500.Everything else on it is in good shape.Good buy, or no?

Well, if it needs to be resleeved you can almost gurantee that it will need a crank did the right side piston break or did the rod break when it siezed? A crank is a good chunk of change, probally $300-500, pistons $200, and all the other stuff...
kind of odd, I had a 96 banshee that broke the right rod.. here is a picture of it

I don't know, but I figure a whole new motor is only 1000 to 1500 and with the rest of the bike in good shape, even if I spent a grand on it I would still be ahead. Is it a bad idea?
