Could some one tell me the brake in procedure for the Box brakes please.

Don't call me dumb, but what are box brakes??

 

Hey Dude, Just ask.
Install the pads as you would any normal pair. Then spray the rotor and pads down with WD-40. Slowly ride around and hit the brake hard. After you stop, do it one more time. Then spray the whole thing off with the water hose. Be careful because it will be hot. Try them out and do it again if necessary.

The purpose is the wear the face of the pad into the shape of the rotor. It also plates the rotor with brass. If you just install them and go, they will just grab instead of sliding like a brake pad should.

Are the brass box brakes really as good as I have heard they are? Are they for all riding conditions or certain ones only?

 

They were originally conceived for riding on the creek in South Mississippi. But people have been using them for trail riding with no problems.

They hold up extremely well to mud and water also. Several local hunters are very pleased with them on their ATV's.

 

Where can I get some for my 400EX and how much do they usually cost?

 

Is it required to do a "break in" on other types of pads? I have never heard of anyone doing anything like this before.

 

Some street pads recommend a break in period before you actually hit the street riding, to insure you get the best performance.
