A little more power

Has anyone put on any aftermarket parts like High perf. Exhaust or a Carb. Kit or a clutch kit. I was just wondering if any of them gave you some more umph!! I'm not unhappy with the amout of poweer I have now but more is asways better. And I like the sound of a good exhaust.

I am sure trying. I've done a lot and gotten a little. I've got the Scrambler long duration cam from AAEN, messed around with airbox/horn, exhaust mods, just built a megaphone exhaust using the stock headpipe and a ported out muffler with a larger tailpipe. And this is starting with the H.O.-which is only a tiny percentage faster than a regular SP anyway. I also tried the AAEN Scrambler roller seconday clutch, which was okay but hardly any bang for $400 bucks. I also didn't like their megaphone muffler with Supertrapp spark arrestor, it was too loud and lost top speed.
But it is not all gloom in the "hop-up the sportsman" world. There are a bunch of companies
gearing up for exhausts which are suppossed to work. And we got a carb, a Mikuni 38mmTM flatslide somewhat messed with, used, bored-out to about 40mm from AAEN, which we put on my son's 425 EXP, which is basically the same motor as ours. We had put a H.O. cam in it and seen little response, much like everything on the H.O.
These rigs come with vacuum actuated "Constant Velocity" carburetors. Like lawnmower carburators and your uncle's Buick, These carbs only open as fast as the engine demands. When you think you are hitting the gas you are only giving it permission to accelerate as fast as IT wants to.
4-stroke thumper big-bore motocrossers and flat trackers use flatslide Mikunis and Keihins with accelerator pumps. This is what throttle response and acceleration are all about. Like a Holley double pumper with mechanical secondaries. I just tried to try a Mikuni 42mm like this but it wouldn't fit. The throttle cable bracket was in the way of the gastank. It needs to be a side mount throttle. Carb Parts Warehouse is trying to find me a carb. They think there is a new 40mm Mikuni that may work. There was also a 40mm Mikuni for Harleys that they haven't made for 6 years, The current 42 is basically what didn't fit.
So the EXP is finally rockin',, it's rpm limiter is its' problem right now, the scrambler guys know how to kill the limiter by unplugging a grey/orange wire, but that wire on an EXP controls the reverse solenoid.
It does run great, with no compromises. I am looking for more, and the carb holds much promise in unleashing the potential. I'll post when I get the carb and a new custom aluminum airhorn
done. Silly Later,,,,,Fourlix
