Brute force vs grizzly
#2
Before you even get to top speed, you must know that both of the brutes are faster than the Yamaha. Why? It's called a V-Twin engine. Two Cylinders instead of one like the Yamaha. Kawasaki, Polaris, and Can-Am are all using it now in their big-bore ATVs, and although many will disagree with me, Yamaha is still playing catchup.
Bottom line - with a V-Twin Kawi, you will be quicker than either grizzly.

haha sorry man.
The KQ 750AXi and Grizzly 700 are both great all-around quads, and are more than capable for working and for trails. It's just in terms of the engine department, both of their engines pale to the V-Twins in terms of power as well as a refinement (those V-twins are sooooooo smooth!).
I really like the KQ with the rockstar energy graphics, it would look nice parked next to my 08 LTR450 LOL

I'd have to see if I could find the actual HP numbers.... but the main difference (other than displacement) is that the 750 has Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) whereas the 650 has a carburetor.
Whoops, just looked it up. You can ONLY get the 750 with EFI, whereas you can get the 650 with a carburetor (standard) or EFI (more $$!).
There is a difference in power (not a huge one), but I can't find the specific numbers anywhere. Honestly, I think the Brute Force 650 4x4i (the "i" means fuel injected) is a good compromise. It's not like you're gonna run out of power in a 650 V-Twin, LOL

Well, if I remember correctly the following were the numbers for 2008
Kawie 750i = 52
KQ750 = 50
Griz700 = 47
Rincon 700 = 41
Can Am 800 = 62
Polaris 800 = 54
AC1000 = 67
I think the kawie750, KQ750, Can-Am800 are slight higher for 2009 and the polaris has the new 2009 sportsman 850 with 70hp.
However, HP numbers are only one slice of the pie that makes the entire quad. I have had a kawie prairie 700, kawie bf750, polaris 800x2 and now a 2009 KQ750. Power between these is the bf750, then the sportsman800, then then KQ750 and then the prairie 700 with all being very close. The bf750 has the best low end and response.
BUT, if you factor in handling, power, torque, ride comfort, functionallity, ground clearance, etc, etc, then POWER isn't everything. My new KQ750 handles better than all the previous quads I have owned. It is the best all around package.
So, bottom line is you have to ask yourself the following question.
1) What is the majority of your riding will be?
2) What do you value most, HP or ride comfort or all around package?
3) Is ground clearance more important?
4) Is front locker more important?
etc etc etc

The "i" means independent rear suspension..

Horsepower and top speed are totally overrated for a utility quad IMO. Much more important factor in this comparison is belt drive tranny reliability and the Yammy system is head and shoulders ahead of Kawi. Ground clearance, suspension, low center of gravity, and brakes all favor Yamaha IMO. If you ever need to run in full lock front end mode you will appreciate the Yamaha power steering. And the Yamaha 700 is not exactly a slug.
