Default OMW Big-Bore Cylinder vs. Sleeve Kit

I`d like to know what the benefits are of purchasing one of your big bore cylinders over the 720 sleeve kits typically found on Ebay ?

The main problem with the e-bay kits or any other kit that uses the stock cylinder and a sleeve is material thickness. The factory cylinder is NOT designed to be bored out and have a sleeve installed. Once its bored out for the 105mm sleeve kit there is about .080 wall thickness before you break into the water jacket. Since the iron sleeve has no material to hold it in place it moves around causing head gasket problems. Its not uncommon to see the factory cylinder crack or warp under these conditions.

My big bore cylinder on the other hand is a brand new casting designed to accept a 105.5mm piston. It is designed after the stock cylinder with several improvements such as reinforced deck and better cooling. It has been tested under some pretty severe conditions and works great.

I just checked out the Pami stuff for reference purposes & here is what I found.

Cylinder - Piston - Rings & head gasket came to - $ 1564.00

U.S Dollar vs Euro exchange rate today is .713 add $ 448.86

19% German VAT - add $ 392.44

Brings a total of - $ 2395.30 !

This does not include shipping from Germany. + $ ??

Nor does it cover having to pay for your cases to be machined to accept the cylinder - so I have to ship my engine to Germany ?

I noticed on another site that the OMW complete piston/cylinder package is on sale now for only $1200 + shipping all the way from KY.

I could by 2 of the OMW 730 kits for that price & since it is designed as a bolt on package, there is no need for any case machining.

I think i`ll spend my money in the good ol` USA !

Chris not all the cylinders have to come from OMW. CP industries makes them for us. The casting we are using is base off the Pami cylinder.

I deal with the Germans all the time . I think you have a few of your numbers wrong.
