Changing the crankcase oil. Book calls for Yamalube 4 10 w 30.
Can I use any 10w30 motor oil for the crankcase, Like Casrtol. or since it is the Ultramatic 450 do I need to use the yamalube 4?
Electrical question. On the 450 fuse block there are some fuses that I question if they are being used or not. I'm looking to add additional lighting and wanted to use the fuse block under the seat any help.

 

Castrol is all I use, my manual says Yamalube or non-yamaha branded stuff... it is only a brand name after all.

 

The sprague clutch is cooled by the engine oil. Use motorcycle oil only. Automotive oil has detergents and friction modifiers which will cause the clutch to slip or be damaged.

Buy a cheap volt meter to identify the fuses that are hot when the key is on. If no fuses available, buy a fuse block from an auto parts store and make you own.

I would also use a relay.

I used to run Yamalube. But do some research, it really isn't that great of an oil.

I now use Amsoil 0w40 all season. You can run it every season of the year, and up here where it goes as cold as -50 it works wonderful. Not to mention, it is synthetic. Have the same bike and year as you, my 450 loves it.

Yes it costs more then Yamalube, but a much much much better oil.

If you choose to be cheap and not give your motor a premium oil, just make sure that the oil is designed for wet clutches.
