My Friends '01 Recon has a strange problem that I hope someone can shed some light on.When riding sometimes,it will sputter and cough and sometimes backfire out the exhaust. If he puts the choke on it will run ok,but with the choke off it will only idle, and as soon as he gives it some throttle,it breaks up and sputters. If he drains the float bowl, over and over, and also keeps revving the #@$@% out of it,it eventually clears up.Note that it only does this sputtering thing once in a while, like yesterday we were riding and it started acting up after an hour or so.Then after performing the procedures listed above,it ran fine for the rest of the day.Any thoughts? Thanks

My 99' recon does that , it seems to only happen after I have it at high revs for an extended period of time . When mine does that A just pull out the choke and leave it on for about 2 minutes just riding around and it is fine , Does your friend have a jet kit ? That coukd have something to do with it .

Sounds like maybe you have something floating around in the carb. and every now and then it gets sucked up into the main jet. This happened on my 2000 Recon and on a brand new CR250 I had.

My recon does the same thing but it only does it when i have been riding in 5th gea and hit a larger bump so the front end comes up higher than normal once in a while it will sputter without the bump or 5th gear its annoying

mine would do that till i got my k&N. just take the carb off look, take the main jet out and blow through it. also if you don't want to do that. this works sometimes. on the bottom of the carb on the left side, theres a screww. turn it while the recon is started and gas should come out. start reving it up. that has worked

My Recon only had this sputtering problem briefly when it was less than 20 hours old. I did screw with the idle mixture a lot,due to an idle problem, but that shouldn't affect high rpm operation. So basically, mine sort of worked its way out. All the jetting changes I made were put back to stock settings. All settings were good except for idle. It was off a few turns! I don't know why mine no longer sputters but i ALWAYS run it at high RPM for very extended times! I have not had a problem for a long time!

Hey how many discs are you running in your IDS 2?
Mine is still in the box and I would like to get it right the first time. I am putting in a Dynojet stage 1 and a Uni filter to compliment the pipe.
Thanks

my recon doesn't do it anymore..it just stopped, but it helps if u are in a high rev like in second gear doing a small ramp out of a ditch or something just shift up to 3rd when u are slowing down and it won't do it. or just let of the throttle slowly instead of just letting go..that works for me but I don't have the problem anymore! It went away!!!!! yeah!!!!!!
