Triton ATV88 2 place trailer for Polaris ATV's
#1
Greetings,
I posted this question in the trailer section but since it pertains to Polaris ATV's and there could possibly be more people looking in this section of the forum I wanted to ask the question here as well. I appologize for posting it in two separate locations but I don't have much time (2 days) and need to get a trailer and need advice.
I'm considering buying this trailer but not sure if it's big enough for a Polaris Sportsman 500 and a Polaris X2. Comparing the dimensions of the trailer to the dimensions of the ATV's I'm not sure.
Does anyone out there have this trailer and use it for Polaris Sportsmans? If so any issues as far as fitting them?
I'm also open to other trailer suggestions.
Thanks in advance,
Joe

I have this trailer and use it with a Sportsman 500 Touring and a 850XP. It works, the machines hang over the trailer but the tires are well within the trailer. It does make it a bit hard to tie down, but some time and an ample selection of straps and you will get that figured out. I got a great deal on mine as it was a repo, if I was ordering one I probably would have gotten a bigger one that loads front to back not crossways. I have plenty of tow vehicle, and I always take the windshields off the machines when they are loaded crossways, and this gets to be a pita.
Good luck.

I don't have that trailer, but Triton's website says that the deck is 79"x104". I think the length of the trailer, 104", will be plenty for the two quads you mentioned, but the 79" would concern me. My 2000 SP500 is all of 78-79" long, and I know the X2 is longer. If you're lucky, you might get the tires on the deck, but front and read-ends would probably be sticking out on both sides. Not ideal for sure.
I'm not sure where you live & availability, but here's an idea/suggestion. I own a Triton Elite 10-101 snowmobile trailer and use it only for quads. It's 101" wide by 10' long.... and I can easily put two SP500s side by side... with an extra 3-4' behind them for carrying gear, or a 3rd small quad/bike. And it's a tilt bed, so no hassle/messing with carrying ramps to load and unload quads... the deck is the ramp.

Yeah if I had it to do over again I would definitely go that route. 1 Step better if money was no object I would go with the 14 foot version and get a second axle. IMO it would be worth giving up the tilt bed for the peace of mind with the second axle. If you do any kind of winter riding go with aluminum. Road salt up here plus steel frame equals short lifespan.

The trailer you picked would work but, as was said, the quads would hang over the side. I also have a 101" snowmobile trailer. I can put my X2 on without it hanging over if I load sideways. It's 12' long so I can also carry 3 fullsize machines without a problem. I usually load our 2 quads in using the trailers tilt bed feature and load the last one sideways using a loading ramp. Also, the capacity of the trailer is a little weak for a couple of heavy Polaris machines.

I have an Aluma 78114ST. It has a low rail around the perimeter. I can load two ATV's end to end or, an ATV transversely across the front with a PWC, on its trailer, with the tongue tucked underneath the ATV. I load with the loading ramps on the floor and the ATV drives over the low rail without a problem.
Not sure if this rig could haul 3 ATV's or not. I'm going to have to give it a try.
I just LOVE the Aluma trailer.
My recommendation: Determine everything you'd like the trailer to do. Test the various configurations and arrangements to establish what your minimum needs are. Then buy a trailer that meets your likely needs. Remember: no trailer will do everything!

Thanks to all that replied. After listening to everyone's input and suggestions I ended up ordering the Triton killjoy suggested. It's the Elite 10-101. I think that was right call. It was a little pricey but I think I will avoid a bunch of headaches in the future. Sounds as if it should be the perfect solution. I just have to wait to get it and then figure out how to strap the machine down.
Thanks again. If I didn't ask the question I probably would have ordered the original one which would have been to small I think.

I had a 10 foot trailer which I traded in for the 14 footer. The incremental cost was not that great and the increase in flexibility was enormous (I can trail my PWC (Waverunner) AND my ATV (Sportsman XP 550).
Make sure the don't make the mistake I made and get too short a trailer.
Good luck.

I own an Aluma 6316LW trailer and would recommend it to anybody looking for a 2-place Trailer. It is an in-line tandem axle. Here are a few pics, I ordered aluminum sides after the fact. I can fit 2 tracked atv's on it with the 63 inch width 16 foot length.
