I have been thinking that I may be able to get my hands on a DS450 roller....I also can get access to a solid 250r motor....Peanut butter and Chocolate....MMMMM

Now follow me....the biggest Achilles heel of the DS450 is weight....I know you think, "How can that be? It's the lightest quad out there..." well let's start with the facts:

The DS from the ground up was designed to be light. Every component designed to be light. So why on God's green earth did they decide not only to build a motor that has had quite a few issues, but build one that is some 10 pounds heavier than the heaviest motor?

That makes no sense.

What to do? Put a well built 250r (or bigger bore) motor in that chassis. With the motor swap alone you save a ton of weight....you lose the weight of the motor, electronics are another 10 pounds, battery and fuel pump. Then you could lighten up some parts that were overbuilt for the DS and....hell while we are at it throw on some nice Fox Floats and I bet we could get ourselves a 280 pound screamer. Power to weight would be untouchable for a stock bore and even more wild if it goes 310cc plus...

I guarantee you that if we can get it pulled off....(not difficult, do a flipped swinger and simple motor mounts and it will be as durable as any quad and so much more nimble and less fatiguing.

If things go right we may have something to ride by year's end.....

What you want things to break on it more than they already do??

The motor is already a pig 10 pounds heavier than everyone else....why not add another 25...LOL Then they can say..."The Ride Says it.....oh snap" Can I get some new hips for the frame??

Having had a 330R, I bet an ESR 370 stroker would be a great choice for that frame.

 

Not a 2 stroke fan at all. They just need to put a better 4 stroke motor in there. Better yet, a big bore 4 stroke in a Similar frame, a replacement for the Mighty DS650.

 

That's the idea....since Can-Am put a fat motor into the ultra light frame. I bet the way it's set up, all you would need is some engine mounts and maybe a flipped swingarm.

I'd put a KTM motor in that sucker, that would be great.

But I got on the light kick. Lighter is better handling, less fatiguing and just all out faster than fatter.

If you do a 2-stroke build. Why not go with the cr500 engine, now thats thinking lol.
