Sportsman XP Aftermarket Belt ?

I too was curious about this and asked it several weeks ago. The overwhelming consensus was to stay with the Polaris belt. And it appeared from that thread anyway, that there were no aftermarkets available yet.

Since Daryl Rath is running a new 850 XP for Quadterrain races, if there is aftermarket available, he would know, I think his website is rathracing.com.

There are most likely some aftermarket belts out there, but from my experience and pretty much everyone else on these boards, they are not worth the time it takes to put them on. I have heard lots of stories of them wearing out after only 100 miles. You will only save a few bucks by going with something like a Goodyear, and in some cases, they are more expensive. Save yourself the headache and get a Polaris belt.

I agree with bcdudley.....the Polaris stock belt would be the best bet. You know what you're getting and it works very well. Shop around on the Internet for the best price. The best price on a belt I got a month ago or so was from Cheap Cycle Parts. It made my X2 "new" again. Zoom zoom.

I recently purchased a belt from eBay My World - xtremecyclesoutlet on ebay as well and had no problems. They were about half the price of a local dealer.

That feeling would change real quick if you were 15 miles out in the sticks without a belt. Changing the belt in the woods without any prior testing in your garage would not be fun. I'd just get the belt and have the tools handy to replace it in the field. XP owners might want to look into a small jack to get the rear wheel off. Cabella's has a cool atv jacking platform for soft ground. It's not particularly fun, but it's not that bad if you've done it once or twice. Just a lot of knuckle wrapping and finger twisting.

I was just thinking that finding an aftermarket belt cheaper to have for an emergency instead of spending so much on a Polaris belt that may never get used. I've carried belts before for all my machines and never had to use them. Kind of like an insurance policy. The Sportman XP belts are $130.00 locally. I have found them for under a $100 bucks online. I know I can buy aftermarket belts for older sportmans for around $45.

Yeah, aftermarket makes sense in a pinch. Maybe buy the Polaris and plan to swap it out for existing before the existing breaks, but well worn. Then you can keep the old belt in your box for emergency and have a nice solid OEM belt in service.
