2007 800 X2 driveline binding, 4x4 engaging??
#1
I am having an intermittent problem with this machine. I will be riding along fine, doing nothing in particular (in 4x2), and suddenly the machine will slow to nearly half the speed I was at with the same throttle position, become very hard to manuever, and feel as if it is ready to run over itself - very hard to turn, wanders, etc. Originally, I thought it was the dreaded roller cage had gone bad and was locking the 4x4 in, though now I am not sure that is the case. Funny thing is that everytime it happens, I stop, back up about 15 feet, and it is then back to being fine again going forward. Any ideas?? Thanks, Ron

Have you used the ADC alot? My 08 700 x2 junked out the hydrulic pump(ADC) and the ADC clutches. It would bind up every once in a while and act as if the front end was locking up. I could backup and it would release but forward in 4x4 or 4x4ADC and you could really feel it trying to bind up. I took it into the dealer (under warranty) and Polaris supplied me with a brand new front diff. system.

I have an 08 700 X2, and this being only the second time I have used my ADC. It gave me trouble while riding at Hatfiled McCoy this past week.
I could tell the ADC clutches where not acting right due to the sqealing noise coming from the front diff as I descended a steep hill on one of the black trails. Then when I reached the bottom of the hill I disengaged the ADC but it was still locked in, and would not release, even when I tried reversing some to release it. It was binding the fron diff and causing alot of resistance going forward. The only way I could get it to release was to snap the brakes real hard and fast while moving forward.
I had to repeat this several times for the rest of the day, and I could smell the gear oil as it was heated by the clutch friction. I was able to ride the next day, but I had to keep popping the brake every once and a while. Mine is still under warranty, so I will be taking it in to the dealer this Saturday. Once they fix it I do not intend to use the ADC ever again. It was to much engine braking for going down extreme hills. I can control the ATV better in high or low gear and applying the brakes. The main reason I will not use it again, is the risk of it locking up again while I am on a long riding trip. I thought my trip was going to end a day earlier, but I was able to ride the next day by manipulting the brake to make it release. I will let you know what happens when I take it to the dealer. Did you get yours repaired?

Polaris replaced the complete front differential unit including the ADC assembly. The parts to repair the unit was more than the cost of replacing it completely. The local tech mentioned that long decents were harder on the ADC clutches, due to the heat from friction, i.e. using it for a long desent could wipe out the clutches very quickly.
I know I won't be using the ADC on my machine unless absolutely necessary.
Good luck with yours.

Well, mine has been in the shop for 2 weeks now and the dealer says he is waiting on Polaris to authorize him to tear down the front differential to find ut what is causing the problem with the ADC.
I am going to call Polaris tomorrow and see if this is the case. I can't beleive it takes this long to get approval to tear down the front diff and inspect. Has anyone else had probelms with Polaris or the dealer dragging their feet on these types of warranty repairs?
I will keep you updated on my progress.
