Default K&N Oil Filter for 550/850 Sportsman XP's

I emailed K&N asking if they had a specific oil filter already made up for our machine (knowing that they didn't appear to) and they sent me this reply:

"Thank you for your interest in K&N products. I am sorry to say that we do not offer an oil filter for your vehicle, at this time. If you would like to recommend one be listed, please click the provided link.

If you have any further questions, please call our Customer Support Team at 1(800)858-3333. Thank you for writing and have a great day.

So you know I clicked on it and filled it out for my machine...maybe others would be interested in doing so as well to perhaps get one going here soon!

I did the same thing. As stated maybe if enough of us that own 850's make a request they will produce the filter.

IMO...get a WIX...AFAIK K&N doesn't actually make their high dollar filters...one of the other oil filter compaines does..don't recall which one. Just get a WIX and call it a day...not much cheaper but it is a great filter and it is available. Part number is 51358. Napa sells them as relabled as Napa Gold 1358's

BTW did I mention it is IDENTICAL to the OEM filter that comes on the 850,inside and out..ie I bet money WIX manufacturers the OEM filters.

If the 1358 is identical, then it's the same filter as for a Kawi Prairie or Brute. That is a few things now that are the same from my BF to the XP.

Yes..don't know if you remember the pics I posted but the NAPA Gold 1358, Carquest 85358, WIX 51358 is identical to the 850 OEM filter...
Matter of fact my dollar says that WIX actually makes the OEM filter...even the code printing looks the same. Makes sense though since WIX is an American Company....right here in NC.

Good to know HO. Wix filters are very good. I used to buy them for my trucks with the napa gold label from fleet filter. Good deals and great products.

Even if you go to Napa, (at least around here), you can pick up the Amsoil oil right there also.

Not sure if it's worth it, but you save a few bucks over buying the Polaris kit.

Hopefully without starting the whole oil thing..let's just say..I'd rather break even and know I am getting a WIX filter and AMSOIL then pay Polaris for a WIX and who knows what oil...(maybe AMSOIL,since it is an "American" product, maybe not..who knows?)...if I save a few bucks it is a bonus..and yes my local NAPA also carries AMSOIL...which is like the only chain I have seen that carries it...I was a dealer for a long time, but let it go. My FIL has been a dealer for ever and still is...

Oh, come on HO. This is an inline twin! You can run earwax in it and it would run longer than most people will own it........
