Cool 800 head pipe????

Ok so I was told by some guys I ride with that if I get a 800 head pipe for my 04 sportsman 600 twin that I would get some nice gains from what seems to be a simple bolt on. Anyone out there have any thoughts on this or has done it??

I found one for $100 off of a 2007 800

Thanks

It will breathe better but not sure on gains. There may be some difference but it wouldn't be too noticable unless you complete it with a pipe, K&N filter, and possibly re-jetting the carbs. Even then you will only see minimal gains.

I have the K&N already in. These guys are talking about once I have this header pipe to cut the muffler tip off and weld it shut then cut a hole in the back of the muffler.....any thoughts on why you would do this??

probably lose power doing that. But you will gain noise for sure.

Not the best method for adding power your bike. You would be better off simply adding a slip on pipe with the stock headers. Polaris is notorious for taming down their bikes by restricking airflow. If you decide to buy the header pipe, you should take the muffler apart and drill wholes through the baffles, then replace it. If you add a filter, pipe and jet your bike, you will see a nice increase. Keep in mind that you are somewhat limited with a shaft drive quad because you cannot adjust the final drive, but you can get a 3-4 horsepower increase (WAG) which will be noticable.

I agree with lugnut. Better off going with a pipe than trying something like that. They make full systems that allow better breathing and it would make it easier to dial in jetting.

If you do the 800 headpipe and a good slip-on muffler, that would be the best combo.

Did you do them both at the same time? I just got a LRD Torc but no header yet. Just curious on sound or power differences before and after.

I did the muffler first then the header. each one caused a power gain, both were money well spent.
